About

Dog food is food specifically formulated and intended for consumption by dogs and other related canines. Like all carnivores, dogs have sharp, pointed teeth, and have short gastrointestinal tracts better suited for the consumption of meat.

It's all history

Dogs have been man's best friend for thousands of years; the first undisputed dog remains buried next to humans date back some 14,700 years. Although the origin of the domestic dog is unclear, the animal is part of the genus Canis, which is part of the wolf-like Canids, and its closest living relative is the grey wolf.

Health benefits

Diets higher in protein and lower in wheat and processed grains (as found in most shelf stable commercial pet foods) will result in more energy for your dog

Trivia

Most people are aware that chocolate is bad for dogs. However, you should also stay clear of onions, grapes and raisins, macadamia nuts and bones! Bones can break and sliver and can puncture your dog's intestinal tract or cause them to choke

Top tip

James Pratt was the first person to invent dog biscuits in the late 1800s. In 1907 an American competitor produced a biscuit in the shape of a bone and until 1922 these two biscuits defined commercial dog food

Fun fact

A dog's sense of smell is 10,000 times stronger than that of a human's. That's why they sniff anything and everything!
