Skin care don'ts
Here are the mistakes people often make in their skin care regime;
Forgetting to wash your face before bed
Washing your face at night is a hard-and-fast rule when it comes to caring for your skin. During the day, natural oils and sweat accumulate on the skin. We are exposed to the environment, which means that dirt and pollution build up on our outer skin layer. Not removing all of this dirt and gunk at the end of the day can cause skin irritation, inflammation, and acne breakouts.
Applying too much product
Although it's tempting, less is more when it comes to your skincare products. A good rule of thumb is to apply the lightest weight product first — like a serum — then layer heavier products, such as a lotion, cream, or sunscreen on top.
Be careful not to buff away too much of your your top skin layer as you will actually be removing the protective barrier that your skin has. Once removed, your skin is exposed to environmental toxins and sun damage, causing ageing. Exfoliate two to three times a week, maximum.
Not Moisturising Oily Skin
It’s a common misconception that those with oily skin should avoid moisturisers. In fact, it’s vital that even oily skin gets moisture because without it, skin will overcompensate for the loss of hydration (with more oil), leading to breakouts and uneven skin texture.
